Brannen Payne

Founder and Trial Attorney

Brannen Payne isn’t just a lawyer—he’s a fighter for the underdog and a relentless defender of people facing the overwhelming force of the criminal justice system. As the founder of Payne Law Firm, he has dedicated his career to helping everyday Arkansans take back control of their lives after a DWI or criminal charge. His core belief is simple: one mistake shouldn’t define your future.

Backed by years of trial experience, Brannen has earned a reputation as one of Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley’s leading DWI defense attorneys. He is specially certified as an Instructor of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) under NHTSA standards—the same tests the police rely on to arrest drivers. This rare qualification gives him unique insight into how officers conduct (and often mishandle) investigations, allowing him to pick apart weaknesses and build powerful defenses.

Brannen thrives in the courtroom. Known for sharp cross-examination, strategic thinking, and bold advocacy, he has secured countless Not Guilty verdicts, dismissals, and favorable resolutions for clients who once felt like their lives were over. His approach blends technical mastery with genuine care—fighting fiercely while guiding clients with clarity, honesty, and respect.

Outside the courtroom, Brannen is a family man, history nerd, and occasional adventurer. He lives in Fayetteville with his wife, Whitney, and their two kids, Addie and Prosper. Their pack also includes Hanno—a Rhodesian Ridgeback named after one of Brannen’s favorite historical figures—and Izzy, a beloved shelter rescue.

A lover of ancient military history, Brannen draws inspiration from Hannibal Barca, Carthage’s greatest general and Rome’s fiercest challenger. His shelves are filled with everything from courtroom transcripts to The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. His favorite movie is Conan the Barbarian, and his unofficial fight song—Werewolf Act by The Mountain Goats—sets the tone for his never-say-die style in court.
